sam harris' waking up app cost

I want to sign up for an annual subscription. I hope you are right. Sam mentioned in his latest episode that the monthly prices will double in February. If you want to develop an app, you have to pay app developers.

i'm not sure how much sam's app will cost, but i pay $50 a year for Calm.com and i find its worth every penny. An ongoing subscription? As others have said (not to hammer the point home too hard!)

That has to be recouped. In the last ten years, it has become confusing for people who are accustomed to getting less tangible, digital products for free.

Apps cost money to make.

No one wants to drive people away and make a dead product.

His podcast is free because he accepts donations.

New comments cannot be posted and votes cannot be cast. Why is a bad thing that you pay a few bucks for a product you presumably want to use? sure, sam might be somewhat wealthy, but that doesn't mean that he should shoulder the cost of this. i'm not sure how much sam's app will cost, but i pay $50 a year for Calm.com and i find its worth every penny. (By the way, I am speaking as an avid fan of Sam and a contributer to his podcast). Calm, which I think is the market leader, is $5 a month (or $60 a year) and a whopping $300 for a lifetime subscription... that's quite a big number to see in the appstore.

i have friends who pay almost that much for a single in-person session. i'm not sure about Headspace, but Calm has a ton more content than Waking Up (as of this writing, anyway), Poor people don't have time to meditate anyway.

I haven't tried calm but I'd assume it also has considerably more content than Sams ~4 month old app. Maybe that's the going price for these kinds of apps but apps just aren't my kinda content in that case I guess lol. It would barely enter my calculation. I can’t imagine what the annual cost is if this is the monthly price. I hope Lawrence Lessig will bring him into the light of r/freeculture.

In the case of Headspace I actually second that. If we think about an app like this as a meditation kit, or a boxed set or something, it makes more sense in evaluating its price. It will have to be something very special for me to hand over any money for this app. I wonder where Sam will try to position this in terms of price. Just that commodification of something like meditation is something what concerns me. Compared to those, Waking Up has a lot more content. (Though I contribute a little). It has at least 20 times the content, if we're talking hours of guided meditation. Press question mark to learn the rest of the keyboard shortcuts.

Or, if a person doesn't like that it costs money, he or she can simply not purchase it. Especially not when I can read all the information he gives in free books through the library and free guided meditation on YouTube (if I get stuck). Press question mark to learn the rest of the keyboard shortcuts. Waking Up is free to download and offers access to the first 5 meditations from the Introductory Course, along with 5 short talks. Software development, research into meditation, and expert advice is not. Wow. Besides that, Waking Up has ~22 lessons, if you look at the Headspace 'packs', Headspace has a lot more content. All that said, the quality and function of a product should be reflective in the price-- blown out prices from exclusivity and hype motivating stupid high prices is also questionable. Very lucky I'm a prior supporter because I probably wouldn't even bother. things cost money to make and maintain. Why is his podcast for free then? The commodification of water, for example, is a bit strange and gray-- so I see your point.

How else is our guru going to monetise his flock? i have friends who pay almost that much for a single in-person session. Maybe he’ll finally start adding some significant new content after the price increase. Tried both of these before and gave up. Calm is like $13 per month, but only $50 per year. Sam Harris’s meditation app, Waking Up, is quickly becoming one of the most popular productivity apps for people looking to pursue meditating. I like Harris and meditation, but I can’t justify the expense. About Sam Harris.

I love meditation and have been doing so for years, but $14.99 is a ridiculous price to ask for his meditation app.

Sam Harris is the author of five New York Times best sellers, including Waking Up: A Guide to Spirituality Without Religion.. His writing and public lectures cover a wide range of topics—neuroscience, meditation, moral philosophy, religion, rationality—but generally focus on how a growing understanding of ourselves and the world is changing our sense of how we should live. I guess you can argue an app is less value (you're not in a class setting with other students and a teacher right there to ask questions to). Insight Timer is in my opinion by far and away the best app for meditation. If you signup for the monthly price before February, you’ll be grandfathered in. It's more sustainable that way though, because apps aren't just made and finished they have to be re-written constantly as the operating system changes. The guy has to make a living. While I enjoy Sam's app the most at the moment, it's not truthful to say that Waking Up has a lot more content... Headspace has been around for at least 5 years and has far, far more content at this stage. (BOUT TIME!). Subscription based are my favorites and one time purchases are my second favorite. The perceived value of certain products to certain people has diminished in general.
