Deliberately dumb, over-the-top dirty, and brazenly, confidently, patently absurd, the film makes no apologies whatsoever to viewers who either don't get it or are offended by it.

Although I'm a huge fan of Will Forte, Maya Rudolph, and Kristen Wiig, and a lifelong fan of Saturday Night Live, I never bothered to check this movie out, because I let my assumptions get the better of me. Watch it if you like ridiculous dark humor! Reviewed in the United States on March 13, 2014. In short, this is one of the funniest movies I have ever seen. It was worth buying it because I know I'm going to watch it again.

World's longest SNL sketch stretched beyond unfunny. Rentals include 30 days to start watching this video and 48 hours to finish once started. That rare SNL skit-turned-film that departs wildly from the original SNL concept, makes full (delightfully gratuitous) use of the R rating, and evolves well beyond the one dimensional skit: a clueless MacGruber simply trying to diffuse a bomb before it blows. From mindnumbingly stereotypical one-liners to obsessively awkward plot twists, MacGruber definitely becomes an acquired taste for some who have not seen countless films that follow this often formula. I was really surprised to see one day a clip on YouTube of this, not even realizing it was a full-length movie.
Shame on them. You're doing yourself a disservice if you assume this movie isn't worth your time… If you like to laugh, this is your movie. 8,223, This story has been shared 6,231 times. Forte's performance is marked by a slow and subtle evolution of character, and his refusal to play MacGruber any way other than straight up; and therein lies the power that gives this satirical romp actual weight - both comic and, surprisingly, dramatic.

Can CBS successfully retool this iconic original for 2016? Only taking itself as seriously as it needs to, it is buoyed by an utterly unhinged performance of Will Forte who swings for the fences and rarely misses. Wiig's understated performance is typically brilliant, and Phillippe is perfectly cast as Forte's earnest straight man - a legitimate soldier forced to work with the ultimate jackass.
