The town is located 567 kilometres (352 mi) from the state capital, Sydney and 13 kilometres (8 mi) from the state border with Victoria, in the foothills of the Snowy Mountains, near the upper reaches of the Murray River.

Khancoban Pondage is a great spot for a picnic and has lovely views of the lake. Price varies depending on accommodation choice.

Rec room. My husband tried fly trout fishing in a gorgeous little spot we found on the Murray River close to the van park (sadly he didn't catch one but the surroundings were so picturesque we didn't care). Camping, powered sites, family cabins and en-suite single rooms.
